The Outside World – 2/18/11

February 18, 2011 by ilevy 3 Comments

The Outside World is a weekly recap of the best basketball writing and analysis the internet has to offer.

The Outside World

– I’m not sure who’s responsible for these flowcharts, but I sure hope there’s more on the way! 1)Nick Young 2)Keith Bogans 3)LeBron James 4) Samuel Dalembert 5)Joel Anthony 6)Rajon Rondo 7)Carlos Boozer

– The Suns are pushing their way back towards a playoff spot and they are using a much improved defense to do it. Is it sustainable?

– Bethlehem Shoals has some words on the creation of NBA nicknames.

– Best NBA promotion ever!

– How about a two man fantasy basketball tournament with the pairs organized by geographical area of origin? You decide the champion.

– I’ve wasted more time on Hoopism over the past few months than just about anywhere else on the internet. This feature absolutely takes the cake.

– More depressing news about knees in Portland

– Reports of post game fisticuffs in Sacramento

– These new details about the Tim Donaghy scandal make me want to cry. It’s still a must read though. Avoiding this story is placing your head firmly in the sand.

So I feel obligated to comment on the Carmelo trade to NY. He gets what he wants. Do the Knicks get what they want, and when I say Knicks, I say D’Antoni? Ian Thompson rightfully called ‘Melo a “ball-stopper” which doesn’t sound like a aprt in Mike D’Antoni’s system. No way Amare sustains his level of play now; he thrived with Felton and some of those other guys running. It will be interesting. Already hearing that Deron Wiliams plans on joining them next year.

I thought Chris Paul was heading to NY.

Hold the phone! You’re right. Deron Williams sent to New Jersey today in a surprising trade. The Nets give up Favors, though. Williams will be a free agent after 11-12 I think, so that means maybe the Nets plan on going out and finding Williams a competent teammate to keep him happy and in New Jersey. Holy crap the East is getting loaded! Remember at the beginning of the decade when it was the “JV” league for the NBA?
