The Outside World is a weekly recap of the best basketball writing and analysis the internet has to offer.
– It appears the Knicks have the potential to make their Melo offer to Denver a little more intriguing.
– Lance Stephenson notwithstanding, it seems like the NBA has been on an extraordinary run of adding superior talent who also happen to have their heads screwed on straight. Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin and now John Wall. Wall has reportedly asked Flip Saunders to fine him when he sulks or pouts in an effort to help him become a better leader.
– There has been a ton of analysis on the value of Carmelo Anthony coming from all angles. Truehoop’s Henry Abbot makes a monumental effort to stitch it all together into one complete picture.
– I for one am glad to see the Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey hoopla come to an end. Kudos to Denver for not letting anyone else dictate terms to them. Kudos to New Jersey for not being held hostage and knowing when to walk away.
– One of the famous attributes of Bill Russell was his ability to block shots but also keep the ball in bounds and retain possession for his team. Who’s the best in the NBA at that skill this season?
– A very handsome and intelligent basketball blogger wrote a post about the pair of double-double streaks put up by Kevin Love and Blake Griffin. Of course he jinxed Griffin by writing the piece, as Griffin’s streak was broken just a few hours later. He apologizes profusely to Blake Griffin for this piece of black magic.
– Players are often criticized for a lack of unawareness and candor in postgame interviews. I would love to have heard this imagined response from Jeff Fogle at Hoopdata: “Well Heather, we just happened to get hot from long range. We made 12. They made 6. And, we only won by nine points…so you can tell we must have been doing a few other things wrong. Our inside defense was lousy again. This may have been a one-game illusion. There’s no reason to get excited.”
– More evidence that Kobe Bryant is indeed the worst player in the history of basketball.
