Prepare for the second meeting between the Eagles and Redskins tonight on Monday Night Football by catching up on yesterday’s scores.
Offensive Explosion in Denver
Kansas City and Denver combined for just under 1,000 total yards and 55 first downs on Sunday in the Broncos 49-29 victory. Denver quarterback Kyle Orton threw three touchdowns in the first quarter alone as the Chiefs fell behind 21-0. He threw passes to running back Knowshon Moreno, Brandon Lloyd, and Jabar Gaffney for scores, all within the first 15 minutes of the game. Denver rookie Tim Tebow ran in a short touchdown, followed by a 75-yard fumble return TD by linebacker Jason Hunter as the Broncos extended their lead to 35-0 in the second quarter. Before the half, the Chiefs got on the board with a Matt Cassel touchdown to Jamaal Charles and a Ryan Succop field goal. After the half, Tebow threw his first career touchdown pass to Spencer Larson for three yards. Cassel then found receiver Dwayne Bowe for a touchdown. Up 42-17 in the fourth quarter, Orton threw his fourth touchdown of the game, his second to Lloyd. Cassel, who also threw four touchdowns on Sunday, found Chris Chambers and Bowe in the end zone, but failed on both two-point conversion attempts.
Cassel, playing from behind the entire game, threw for 469 yards. Charles ran for 41 yards, and caught five passes for 80 yards. Bowe had 13 receptions for 186 yards. Orton threw for 296 yards for Denver. Moreno ran for 106 yards, his first career 100-yard performance. Lloyd led the Broncos’ receivers with six catches for 90 yards. Linebacker Mario Haggan had three sacks and a forced fumble for the Denver defense.
Game of the Week Results: NYJ 26, CLE 20 (Overtime)
With 23 seconds remaining in overtime, Mark Sanchez threw a short pass to former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes, who broke two tackles and outran everyone else for a 37-yard touchdown to defeat the Browns on Sunday.
The back and forth battle began with Cleveland taking a 10-3 lead with a Peyton Hillis 12-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. Sanchez threw a touchdown to Jerricho Cotchery and ran one in himself to take a 17-13 lead heading into the half. In the fourth quarter, down 20-13 with timing running out, Cleveland rookie quarterback Colt McCoy showed the poise if a veteran as he lead the Browns’ offense downfield. With 44 seconds left in regulation, McCoy hit Mohamed Massaquoi for a three-yard touchdown to tie the game. In overtime, receiver Chansi Stuckey, who almost had the Browns in field goal range, was stripped by New York corner Antonio Cromartie. Jets’ kicker Nick Folk missed a 47-yard field goal on the ensuing drive. On their next drive, Sanchez was intercepted by corner Joe Haden, but the Cleveland offense again had to punt. That’s when Sanchez was able to avoid the tie with a touchdown to Holmes.
Sanchez finished with 299 yards passing. Shonn Greene led the Jets on the ground with 72 yards. L.T. added 57 more yards rushing. Holmes had a team high 76 yards receiving. Folk was only 2 for 5 on field goal attempts. Their offense held the ball for a total of 47 minutes, compared to Cleveland’s 27 minutes. McCoy was efficient with 205 yards with no turnovers. Hillis ran for 82 yards against the tough New York defense. Tight end Benjamin Watson caught five passes for 74 yards. The two fumbles the Browns lost ended up costing them the game.

Monday Night Football
The Washington Redskins host the Philadelphia Eagles for their second battle of the season. The NFC East rivals met in Week 4, and Donovan McNabb topped his former team 17-12. Remember, Michael Vick left that game with a rib injury, but is now healthy and leading an explosive offense.
The 5-3 Eagles are second in the NFC East, and would remain tied with New York with a win tonight. The Philadelphia offense is fourth in the NFL in yards per game (376.2). Vick’s 105.3 passer rating is first in the league. He is the only QB without an interception. In five games, he has thrown for 1,017 yards with seven touchdowns, and had ran for another 261 yards with two touchdowns. LeSean McCoy leads the Eagles with 572 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He is also first on the team with 41 receptions. Receiver Jeremy Maclin has a team high 506 yards and six touchdown catches. “Action” DeSean Jackson has 504 yards and four touchdowns. The defense is led by former Pro Bowl defensive end Trent Cole, who is second on the team with 39 total tackles, and has a team high seven sacks. Corner Asante Samuel leads the team with five interceptions.
The Washington Redskins are third in the division with a 4-4 record. The Redskins’ offense is 24th in the league in points scored (19.4). McNabb has the lowest passer rating since his rookie season with Philadelphia. His completion percentage is only 57.4%, and he has more interceptions (8) than touchdowns (7). Ryan Torain has been the lead back with Clinton Portis still not healthy enough to play. In four starts, Torain has run for 391 yards and three touchdowns. Santana Moss is first on the team with 48 catches for 604 yards. He and tight end Chris Cooley each have two touchdown catches. The Washington defense has given up 393.2 yards per game, third most in the league. Safety LaRon Landry leads the team with 76 total tackles. He also has a sack, forced fumble, and a pick. Corner DeAngelo Hall has six interceptions, and has returned one for a touchdown.
Prediction
McNabb completed only eight passes for 125 yards with a touchdown and an interception in their first meeting. Torain and Portis combined for 125 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Kevin Kolb was rather uneasy in relief if Vick, and mostly checked the ball down to the backs and tight end. Maclin and Jackson combined for only four receptions for 34 yards. However, with Vick healthy, the offense will be stretching the field with deep passes to Jackson. Last week, the Eagles were able to overcome the great Peyton Manning and his Colts, with special thanks to Samuel’s two interceptions. Vick will outplay his former mentor, and the Eagles will tie the season series at 1-1.

Donovan McNabb (PK) over MIKE SHANAHAN
It’s a push. They’re both washed up.

I guess it would be safe to say that Michael Vick is starting to look like “he gets it”. That is, the art and science of the NFL QB position.
The Eagles WILL re-sign him, right?
Chas says
Yeah, the Eagles are working their way into that “Best team in the weaker conference” discussion.
Casey says
It is strange hearing people refer to Vick as a quarterback who can throw.
Wally says
It is even stranger hearing people talk about Jay Cutler’s deceptive scrambling ability. Guy’s got pretty good wheels for a __________.
