Performance of the Week | 4/26-5/2

May 3, 2010 by Rey 5 Comments

by Patrick ‘Rey’ Reynell

It is that time again. Let’s hear from you readers. We had another week of stellar performances. Pick the ONE that stands out to you, and tell us a story.

Hard not to hear this name no matter your interest in the NHL, so I have to go with Montreal Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak. The twenty-four year old had 53 and 41 saves in games 6 and 7 respectively to close out the 1-seeded and President’s Trophy winners, Washington Capitals. Today he tied up the series 1-1 against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins with 38 saves. The series will shift to Montreal for game 3 this Tuesday night.

On a homer note, Rochester’s own Brian Gionta scored a goal in game 2 against the Pens giving him 3 goals this postseason.

So let’s hear it. Who gets your POTW?

Great call. You beat me to the punch. About the only thing Halak did NOT do was to stand on his head. His hiccup in game one against Pittsburgh was understandable.

I’ll nominate Joe Pavelski of the Sharks … two goals and an assist last night as San Jose went up 2-0 over Detroit. He now has 9 goals and 5 assists in the playoffs … I believe he’s the leading playoff point scorer thus far.

I am going with the Jets Joe McKnight. All the rookie did was announce his arrival to the NFL by puking his way through mini-camp. Good Luck Rex my friend.
Son, you play to win the game!

You know I am going with something from baseball. Give it up for the Baltimore Orioles. The Birds haven’t swept the BoSox since, since, since…I don’t remember. But they did it this weekend taking three – two in extra innings. Who’s afraid of the Sox?

How about the youngster is golf – Rory Mcilroy and Ryo Ishikawa?? Mcilroy shot a 62 on Sunday to overtake Lefty to win at Quail Hollow. Ishikawa goes out and shots a final round 58 to win a tournament in Japan.

You want to see the future of the PGA? Look no further then these two gentlemen and Anthony Kim.
