Pickin’ Splinters Baseball Challenge

October 16, 2009 by Chas 8 Comments

crystal-ball-150x150I thought now would be a good time to provide a little update on the Pickin’ Splinters Baseball Challenge, that little exercise in forecasting that many of us took part in back in April.

With just the League Championship Series, World Series, MVP and Cy Young Awards to go, Wally is the leading contender for bragging rights on the pine. Having correctly picked six of the eight playoff teams–Yankees, Angels, Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers, Cardinals–he leads with a total of 85 points. Casey also correctly picked six playoff teams, but picked two division winners as wild cards, so he trails Wally by 5 points. Chas and Z Dubbz are tied for third at 65 points. The complete standings are as follows:

Wally – 85
Casey – 80
Chas – 65
Z Dubbz – 65
Crossword Pete – 50
Smitty – 45
Rey – 35

Wally, Casey and Chas are the only participants who remain in the running to win. The following are the additional points each contender still has on the table:

Wally (115) – Yankees (AL and WS Champions), Phillies (NL Champions), Mark Teixeira – AL MVP
Casey (50) – Phillies (NL Champions), Albert Pujols – NL MVP
Chas (115) – Angels (AL and WS Champions), Mark Teixeira – AL MVP, Hanley Ramirez – NL MVP

Casey – You put Luis Pujols. Last time I checked – he isn’t up the NL MVP consideration . 🙂

I hope Chas ends up winning cuz I’d love to see LAA knock off the Yankmees.

And now a “Duh! moment” … at least for me … how can anyone NOT pencil in Albert Pujols EVERY year for MVP until he retires???? He’s one of a kind. What was I thinking?!?!?

That’s funny, Wally, ’cause I really want you to win. 😉

Maybe we should all start singing Kumbayah.

We are all winners … kumbayah!

Clutch late inning comeback by the LADs in game 2. I think that series is going the full 7.

Shouldn’t I get points for picking every playoff team? I picked Cleveland to win it all, but now Cleveland’s opening day rosters for the past two seasons play on one of the current League Championship contenders. The Indians are pretty good, they just happen to be wearing different uniforms.

Hey Casey – remember when you submitted your letter of interest to the Knicks? Start drafting one up for Indians GM and I’ll personally deliver it.

Baseball GM? I don’t even know the first name of that Pujols guy.

When are the MVP, Cy Young, etc awards being announced? I thought it usually happens right in the middle of the playoffs.

    GO ANGELS!
