I’ll fill in this week for Casey since he’s still celebrating Nazareth’s NY State Championship in girls’ basketball. Congratulations to both cousins, Cece and Emily, on their respective wins. The common denominator has to be those McCabe genes!
If I had to pick someone other than Nazareth and Chugiak, I’d go with Anthony Robles of Arizona State University. As the #12 seed, he finished this weekend’s NCAA wrestling championships fourth in the 125-pound weight class, the highest finish for his Sun Devil team. No small feat, considering he has one leg. The sophomore from Mesa, Arizona also earned All-America honors – a first for a 125-pounder at ASU. Forget about Arizona as a 12 seed in basketball, here is your true inspirational story and Cinderella of March.
Have a performance that impressed you this week? Let ‘the bench’ know about it.

Congratulations to both girls on their wins. And good choice (ASU) for POTW. An inspirational story indeed.

Looking at the picture – can any of us complain about any discomfort we have?
Wow!
I’d like to mention Jon Scheyer as POTW, but he pales in comparison. All he did was play some of the ‘headsiest’ basketball I have seen in recent memory.

There isn’t really a place for me to put it – but what was Duke’s women’s basketball team ranked #1 in their bracket, playing #9 Michigan St. on Michigan State’s home court?
So the #1 team gets an away game? Talk about setting up the situation for an upset. The Women’s program needs to take a serious look at their tournament and there are some apparent flaws.
Casey says
Wonder if Duke coach, Joanne McCallie, will have a team practice this morning and follow that with a press conference. C’mon Coach Summit! Accept the loss with dignity. Don’t turn it into an opportunity to promote yourself.
#1 playing on the opponents’ home court?!?!
