Performance of the week (POTW) 10/13 – 10/19

Ah baseball – the sport not controlled by time. As long as a team has one out they can prolong the contest. Down seven with seven outs remaining the Boston Red Sox had one of those moments that leaves people saying – now that’s why I watch sports. Facing elimination the Saux pulled off another comeback for the ages and get my POTW. Of course the question has to be how did those Fenway ‘Unfaithful’ feel the next morning when they realized what happened.

Who gets your POTW?

I vote for Matt Garza, with an honorable mention to David Price. Or, maybe it should just go to Joe Maddon for completely re-working his bullpen in a Game 7. Congratulations to the Rays for finishing off the veteran Red Sox when everyone had them left for dead.

I second what Chas says. Gotta give the Rays a whole lotta credit for winning game 7 and for generally just keeping their composure after the game 5 meltdown. Kudos to the Bosox for never giving up … more kudos to the Rays for coming of age. That was a fun series to watch.

And I will third what Chas said. Great performance by Garza – and to think that kid was pitching in Rochester last season. Maddon deserves a lot of credit. Had the Rays gone down he would’ve caught some heat for pulling Kazmir when he did. Instead he regrouped as Chas pointed out.

Tip o’ the hat to the Rays – they are a talented team that plays with enthusiasm.

Hard not to go with the Saux with their historic effort in Game 5, but ultimately the Rays are still playing ball, so kudos to Maddon’s Kids for growing up as quickly as they did (throughout the entire season)!
