From yesterday's dugout discussion: Professional baseball in Rochester dates back to 1877 "when a team sponsored by the Rochester Baseball Association joined the International Association." (pg. 6 Silver Seasons - Mandelaro & Pitoniak). Other teams in the league included Syracuse, Toronto, Buffalo...the usual suspects. The smile on Blair Veenema’s (Rochester) face said it all. The lefty struck out Mike Perkins (UNC-Charlotte) to retire the side in the seventh, and the Webster Yankees went on to defeat the Elmira Pioneers 8-4. After a rocky start Veenema tamed the league’s top-hitting team. Carmody Quiets Hornell

Kevin Carmody (Iona) scattered six hits over seven innings, and the Webster Yankees downed the Hornell Dodgers by a score of 3 to 1. The left-hander from Massapequa, New York struck out two and walked two to earn his first win of the season. Adam Curynski (So.
